It seems to me that somewhere there is an unspoken rule that it is actually socially acceptable and in fact polite to openly stare at a pregnant women. I started to notice this fad around 18 weeks but not until the past month have I noticed just how magnetized people are to stare at a pregnant belly.
This is how it usually goes. Sunnie simply walks past minding her own business, whether it be in the grocery store, post office, on the street or at church. People look at my face then are drawn to the bulging soccer ball in my shirt that is my new tummy then snaps back to my face, then with no shame the eyes are once again back down to my belly to stay there for the duration of time (which it does take me awhile now) to walk past..
The worst is at church. Justin likes to sit up near the front and we go to a big church of about 500 people or so. (I'm totally guessing but I know that in my opinion its big) Naturally somewhere between worship and the sermon starting I feel the very familiar urge that not only do I have to pee but I have to pee now! This means not only trying to get out of my row without stepping on people but walking the long isle to the back of the church with hundreds of eyes looking at my face, then my belly, my face and then belly again...
To clarify I don't always hate this attention my baby bump gets. I really don't mind it when people follow up their stares with "when are you due?" "is it a boy or girl?" "how far along are you?" Really I love talking about my pregnancy if you would sit down and let me go I could talk for hours about it...
I guess its an identity thing, yes I am carrying a little precious life in my womb and really s/he is a miracle! but I am still Sunnie too!
I am assuming I will just have to get used to it as I am nearing the end of my second trimester ( YAY!! 2 weeks left!) and I am very aware this belly will only double and triple on size and so will the amounts of stares!
